Steve Jobs announced the 3G iPhone at the WWDC 2008 keynote address to 5,400 attendees. The 3G iPhone comes as an update to the current version of the iPhone, which did not have 3G. 3G will enable much faster browsing speeds than the current iPhone. According to Jobs “it’s very nice”. We all knew that, but what makes it very nice? Well how does solid metal buttons, a flush headphone jack, gloss black, 3G, a better “feel”, better call quality, and a thinner iPhone sound? Well that is what you will be getting with this new device. Those are not all Apple is updating though, not by a long shot.
Apple also added GPS to the iPhone, a feature many current iPhone owners desperately hoped for. Over the next few months this new iteration of the iPhone will be available in 70 countries, including Canada, Mexico, and Sweden.
The 3G iPhone weighs 4.7 ounces (133 grams) with dimensions of 4.5 x 2.4 x 0.48 inches (115.5 x 62.1 x 12.3 mm). So combined with a flushed headphone jack and slightly different dimensions that original iPhone, you will most likely need to shop for new accessories.
The gorgeous 3.5-inch capacitive touch screen will need a screen protector even though it is resistance to scratches. You just never know what may drop on it or worse if dropt it by accident. Bodyguardz and invisibleShields are both excellent choices that’ll do the job well.
External Backup Batteries for the 3G iPhone
Even though the 3G iPhone is supposed to have a better battery life, it’s still unfortunate that you can’t simply replace it as needed. One solution is the Mophie Juice Pack. Mophie has not officially announced the availability of Juice Pack for the 3G iPhone yet, but I have every confidence that they will shortly. I currently use the Juice Pack with my iPhone, and I can’t begin to tell you how often it has saved me while traveling on the road.
Car Accessories for the 3G iPhone
3G iPhone car accessories generally include car chargers, 3G iPhone holders, and 3G iPhone FM Transmitters. Car chargers generally plug into your car’s power adapter port; sometimes car chargers and FM transmitters are combined into one device. FM transmitters broadcast the music from your 3G iPhone to your FM radio, they either plugs into the headphone jack or the dock connector, if they are combined with the car charger, and they usually plug into the dock connector. 3G iPhone holders are stands that are somehow affixed to your car, usually with a suction cup, and they firmly grip your 3G iPhone so you can use it, navigate the menus, use the maps, etc without having to worry about it sliding all over the place.
Chargers for the 3G iPhone
3G iPhone chargers, the name kind of says it all, they charge your 3G iPhone’s battery. They come in one of two types, the first is they just have a USB port and plug into the wall and then you use the USB cable that came with your 3G iPhone to connect your 3G iPhone to the charger. The second is they have a dock connector hardwired into them and then you plug in the charger and connect your 3G iPhone directly to it. Either way, it’s simple and performs the basic task of charging your Instinct.
Cables for the 3G iPhone
Cables can do many things, mainly associated with how they connect your 3G iPhone to another device or port. There are USB cables they would generally have a dock connector on one end and a USB termination on the other. Most of the other cables somehow connect your 3G iPhone to either an audio or video device or a combination of the two. These can connect either via dock connector, or more likely, via the headphone jack.
Headphones for the 3G iPhone
Headphones are the primary method for listening to music from your Instinct, and with an in-line microphone can also be used for phone calls. There are in-ear ear buds, on-ear headphones that just rest on your ear or around-ear headphones that form some sort of suction around your ear.
Cradles for the 3G iPhone
Cradles can do many things, ranging from charging your 3G iPhone and syncing it to your PC all the way to instantly connecting your 3G iPhone to your entire home theater system. Your 3G iPhone may have came with a cradle that can do most of that, but if you need an extra, say a spare for your office, or on the likely occasion your computer and home theater aren’t in the same room, you can buy an extra cradle.
Bluetooth Accessories for the 3G iPhone
There will be many Bluetooth accessories that work with the 3G iPhone for hands-free talking. You’ll be able make calls while walking or just simply to lazy to hold the 3G iPhone for the duration of the call or especially when you’re driving in your car. The latter is a great option if you aren’t a big fan of Bluetooth headsets but want hands-free functionality while you are driving.
For the 3G iPhone, My iTablet Accessories online store offers an entire list of 3G iPhone accessories; everything from Backup Batteries to Car Accessories, Chargers, Cables, Headphones, Cradles, Bluetooth Accessories, and more. The list goes on and on, but basically the primary purposes of My iTablet accessories are to add functionality, such as where you can use it and what you can use it with, make some features easier to use, and extend the use of the 3G iPhone.
